Canada's Tiara Coin Collection

SKU:

This product is currently out of stock
Description:

In 1965, a new portrait of Queen Elizabeth II was introduced on Canadian coins. The new coin shows a mature image of the Queen, who is wearing a tiara. The original portrait from1953 to1964 depicts the young uncrowned Queen, so this was the first portrait to feature her wearing any type of official headdress. The tiara design was created by English sculptor Arnold Machin. Machin's portraits of the Queen appeared on Canadian, United Kingdom and Commonwealth coins and stamps for decades. The original tiara portrait was used until 1978; it was modified in 1979 by making it smaller. This collection includes the five Canadian coins from One Cent to 50 Cents that feature the original tiara portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.
